Hello, human beings of the internet!

Yesterday we went to one of the most famous pastry shops in Sintra: Casa do Preto!

Sintra has some very famous local pastries such as travesseiros (a rolled puff pastry filled with sweetened egg cream filling) and queijadas (a small tart cooked with eggs, milk, sugar and cheese or “requeijão”).

I would say the most famous pastry shop in Sintra is Piriquita, right in the old centre. However, it can be very busy, especially during high season and on weekends. Another one that I personally think makes a good competition is Casa do Preto. The pastries are really good, and because it’s a little out of the way from the old centre it is usually much less busy and I’ve never had any difficulties finding a seat immediately.

The space inside was open and had a few tables, but since we were with our dog Piggy we didn’t even go inside and sat on one of the many empty tables outside. Their staff was super quick and nice!

We asked for two travesseiros, two queijadas, a natural orange juice and a hot chocolate. The travesseiros are good - the sweet inside is not too sweet and the puff pastry is really nice. Usually, I don’t mind when pastries are sweet, but how can it go wrong?

I’m not a big cheese fan and the idea of the queijadas never appealed to me - I tried some in the past and they did not impress me, and it was not something I want to spend my calories on. BUT, this time, I tried the queijadas from Casa do Preto and they were delicious! This actually made me like them, and they could easily make me order one when I go back there in the future.

In the end, we ended up paying 9,20€ for everything.

Although the typical Sintra pastry here is delicious, the next time I go to Casa do Preto I really want to try something different!
