Hello, dear readers!

Get ready for a sugar overdose in this post, because things are about to get real sweet! (I’ll stop with the cheesiness, I promise).

Last year, one of my coworkers told me about a croissant place near her house, which is called O Melhor Croissant da Minha Rua (the literal translation is “the best croissant in my street”). She told me these are really amazing, but Sesimbra is still more than an hour from my place, and it’s not somewhere I tend to go to a lot, so I never got the chance to try them.

Yesterday, Sebastian and me were strolling around Cascais and came across this cafe right in the heart of the villa, and we knew we had to try them! We knew they had opened new stores in Lisbon and nearby, but I didn’t know they had opened in Cascais (apparently they opened one month ago, so it’s pretty recent). But it seems people already know about it, because there were a lot of small groups sitting on their tables and enjoying the delicious croissants!

I read about O Melhor Croissant da Minha Rua and they originally opened in Sesimbra in 2014, and it looks like this year they invested in expanding their business to the Lisbon area.

Of course we had to go in. We had just eaten somewhere else, so we just grabbed one croissant to go. I’ve always known the typical puff-pastry french croissants, and in Portugal you also see a lot of “brioche” croissants - the Melhor Croissant da Minha Rua is a perfect mix between the two. The dough is a bit sweet, and all croissants are the same: you can, however, choose your own filling. You can choose from the classic croissants with ham and cheese, to trendy Nutella or apple & cinnamon ones! They also make “sandwich” croissants, with chicken, tuna, salad and so on.

Of course I had to go for a sweet croissant, and we took a Kinder Bueno and hazelnuts one - it was absolutely delicious! I could still feel its warmth from the paper box we took it in, and when I got home it was still delicious. The only thing I would point out is that the pastry itself is quite sweet, and I usually prefer the more neutral/salty croissants.

Prices change according to the filling you choose, being that the cheapest is the plain croissant (1.20 EUR) and the most expensive are some of the sandwich ones (smoked ham with cheese or salmon and cream cheese are 3.80 EUR). We paid 2.60 EUR for the Kinder Bueno one, which I think is more than a reasonable amount, especially considering its quality.

They currently have stores in many small towns around Lisbon, and also Lisbon itself!

Of course, since my sugar cravings are always hyped, we went there the very next day to have the Nutella croissant (1.80 EUR)!

If you’re into croissants and trying some delicious and creative puff-pastries, I highly recommend adding this one to your Lisbon itinerary!
